Bio - Director Karen Taylor


As Group General Manger of The Ambassador Hotel Group, (Australia’s 10th largest hotel group at the time with 600 staff and 1200 rooms located over 3 states of Australia) Karen Taylor was responsible for the turnaround of newly acquired properties in the Group, for subsequent repositioning strategies and multi million $ renovation  programs and for the sales and marketing strategies of the Hotel Group.


With classic hotel experience and unique, “out of the box” remote island experiences as General Manager of Turtle Island, Jean Michel Cousteau and Nanuku Auberge Resort, Lindenderry a boutique vineyard winery hotel, RACV Cape Schank a “members” golf resort as well as the iconic Australian 4 star Dunk Island and 5 star Bedarra Resort, Karen Taylor has earned a reputation for delivering award winning outcomes managing locally staffed teams both in Australia and overseas.


Karen Taylor has a diverse range of “hands on” operation experiences including diving, ecological, safari adventure, farm to table dining concepts, spa and wellness, golf and vineyard estates for family and adult only destinations and also brings strong food and beverage experience having managed  two iconic state event venues, the National Gallery of Victoria and the Melbourne zoo.


Catering for up to 5,000 guests, to intimate dinners for 10 to 20 guests, delivering food and beverage service concepts on small remote boutique islands for the most discerning of clientele.


This wide market sector experience ensures a broad understanding and perspective of possibilities for any project, with both traditional and “out of the box” hoteling standards within Australia and overseas.

Resort “re-opening”, turnaround. Taylor Dade created the concept for culture, adventure and safari, food to table and accomplished the mission to prove you could deliver an island experience on the mainland. Karen also undertook the full interior design, landscaping, full FFE procurement and the pre and post operating management.

With home grown, organic farm to table menus, marine reserves, safari adventures and environmental programs that educate, Jean Michel Cousteau Fiji Island Resort was amongst the first to prove that you can have a holiday with your kids and still have couples time and romance. This was a very carefully crafted operations experience supported by the planning and design solutions delivered by Karen.

Resort turnaround. Turtle Island has won multiple awards and recognition for its totally unique concept and operations delivery.  Richard Evanson was way ahead of any industry trends with this iconic property with a focus on environment, organic farm to table menus and romantic adventure.

This experience had profound teachings on the possibilities for design and operations "outside of the box", to deliver an awesome guest experience. These learnings are still very progressive today and appeal to the Millenial demographic for their authenticity.  Working with the culture to preserve their integrity and enable them to do what they do best without compromise to the highest levels of service delivery.
